The legendary Sydney to Hobart yacht race crosses one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world. We follow the fortunes of the 66-foot Grundig, a fast, lightweight racer, as she takes on huge maxi yachts. The 630 nautical mile route takes competitors down the Australian coast and across the notorious Bass Strait to Tasmania. The Grundig is the brainchild of Australian skipper Sean Langman, who breaks all the conventions and decides to take a gamble. He is joined by world champion David Witt for this epic battle. In true Sydney to Hobart race fashion, disaster is just around the corner and heavy seas in the Bass Strait cause the hull of the Grundig to start breaking-up. It is a long night as she limps back to the mainland and eventual safety. The race is over for Grundig, Sean Langman, David Witt and their crew. Their quiet landfall at the tiny fishing village of Eden contrasts sharply with the wild and noisy greeting that awaits the race winners in Hobart. Heartbreaking proof that David cannot always beat Goliath.
